About the Project
The project was established during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to the digital exclusion experienced by vulnerable children and young people who lacked access to appropriate hardware at home.
As education and support services increasingly relied on digital platforms, the project ensured that access to technology did not become a barrier to learning, participation, or development.
This approach is aligned with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly the right to education and equal access to opportunities, as well as with Malta’s national commitment to digital inclusion in education.
Why It Matters
Access to technology, digital skills, and lifelong learning are essential.
Meaningful participation in education and employment depends on digital tools.
Some young people are left without essential digital hardware after school.
Without a device, access to further education, training, employment pathways, and online public services is limited.
Impact in 2025
In 2025, The Malta Trust Foundation distributed 177 refurbished laptops and tablets to students experiencing digital exclusion.
The project supported educational participation, skills development, and employability.
It also contributed to the responsible reduction of electronic waste.
Collaboration
This initiative was delivered in collaboration with local businesses, individual donors, and MITA Cares.
Support in refurbishing devices strengthened both the social and environmental impact of the project.
