About The Blossom Project

Research has consistently shown that limited psychosocial support during early childhood can have a significant impact on mental wellbeing and mental health later in life.

In response to this need, The Malta Trust Foundation established The Blossom Project, the first initiative of its kind in Malta dedicated to providing school-based psychosocial support services within State schools across the Maltese Islands.

Since 2016, the Blossom Project has been offering counselling and psychotherapy services aimed at providing timely, accessible, and effective support to children, young people, families, educators, and school support staff.

The project promotes prevention, emotional wellbeing, resilience, inclusion, and early intervention within educational settings.

Our Team and
Collaborations

The Blossom Team forms part of a wider multidisciplinary network of professionals operating within the respective Colleges, including Maria Regina College, St Benedict's College, St Ignatius College, and Gozo College. Through close collaboration with school psychosocial teams, the project ensures continuity of care and support for students throughout their educational journey.

The Blossom professionals participate in regular meetings, case discussions, and team-building initiatives together with other psychosocial practitioners within the Colleges. This collaborative approach strengthens professional support systems and enhances the quality and effectiveness of services provided to students and families.

Importantly, Blossom services continue throughout the summer months, ensuring ongoing accessibility for students attending Summer School programmes between July and September.

A Holistic and
Inclusive Approach

The project also extends support to parents, caregivers, playworkers, and coordinators, recognising the importance of a holistic and inclusive approach to mental wellbeing and psychosocial care.

Attention is given to students transitioning from Primary to Middle School, especially those who may experience anxiety or emotional difficulties during this period of change. Individual transition support sessions provide students with a safe and supportive space where they can express concerns, receive reassurance, and build confidence.

The Blossom Team also organises introductory visits and orientation support to help students become familiar with their new school environment and ease the transition process.
